New Product Highlights From Core Bike Trade Show 2014 – Part 1

DMR is a somewhat legendary name when it comes to flat pedals, and that status is largely due to their V12 pedals. When the original design was first introduced way back when it helped to redefine the performance that we expected from a flat pedal, but in recent years the game moved on even further and the V12 started to become a bit long in the tooth. To address the situation DMR introduced their new flagship Vault pedal, and it’s one that we love, but now they’ve turned their attention back to the V12 and given it a welcome facelift. It now has a new slimmer platform and redesigned internals, all of which bring it more up to date. It now sits nicely between the V8 and the Vault, and we think it has the potential to be a great pedal, especially as a standard pair will only set you back £49.99.

If you’ve ever seen some old V12 pedals then you’ll know how much thinner these new ones are (they are now 16mm). The same great shape is there though, albeit slightly bigger to suit modern tastes, and these aren’t so thin that bearing quality will suffer. Weight wise the standard ones come in at 420g for the pair, and then the magnesium version is 70g lighter at 350g, but those will set you back an extra £20. If you fancy a some they should be in shops by the end of March.

If you’ve got even more money in your wallet then DMR have also expanded their range of Vault pedals. There’s now a ‘Vault Mag’ and a ‘Vault Mag Superlight. Both use a magnesium body to save weight and then the Superlight version swaps the Cr-Mo axle for a titanium one in a bid to get the weight as low possible. At 290g for the pair they are seriously light too, especially when you consider how big the platforms are. The downside? They’ll set you back £199.99. The standard Mag version is a fair bit cheaper at £119.99, and at 366g they are still far from heavy.
