A Guide to Trail Mud Tyres | Limits to Grip

Peerless when it comes to proper mud conditions, this tyre remains the king of riding in the rawest mud conditions. So good it’s virtually cheating. Holds the line on cambers, corners, carries speed and cuts through, care is needed when guiding the ‘Raker through root and rock compared to the Swampy, Storms and Mud X, but simply has so much superiority in the brown stuff with its aggressive profile. Excellent braking ability and all–round toughness, the Panaracer is slightly heavier than the other tyres but should be part of every mountainbiker’s arsenal.

Yes it’s an expensive bit of rubber, but the Trailraker is exceptional quality. Where this tyre brings up questions however is when and where do you use it. It’s certainly not a trail centre tyre and probably not much use in limestone rock/mud mix, but if your trails are entirely natural the Panaracer is the nearest you will get to a downhill mud without the weight penalty. As good as it gets for trail bike mud.

Suitability: Leans more towards sessioning trail bikes downhill rather than trail riding.
