Escape Create | A new film on the Atherton Family

We all know Dan has been pushing the limits of downhill recently, we saw that in the Hardline event last week but this new film out on Friday from Clay Porter and Metis Creative documents the drive behind Dan’s ability to create all the things he rides. From the look of the images in the gallery here this is set to be something pretty special. It’s been a while since we have seen Clay Porter out out a full on action riding film but this is set to shake that up.

Here’s the word from Red Bull:

press release

Red Bull Media House, in association with Metis Creative, presents “Escape. Create.”, a new film about the Atherton family.

Focusing on the creative genius of Dan and how his drive and determination to build has helped push and inspire his brother and sister to become Downhill World Champions, “Escape. Create.” gives a unique insight into the mind of one of the most creative course designers and builders in downhill mountain biking.

The film, which is released on Friday 5th December, comes hot off the back of the first ever Red Bull Hardline event, which was designed and built by Dan earlier this year. It follows the story of Dan’s passion for building and showcases some of his finest creations from the ‘The Yard’ at Atherton HQ to lines he builds for the family near his new home in the Dyfi Forest in Mid-Wales.

Dan Atherton, said: “I think for most people, mountain biking is about pushing your own limits and creating new lines and trails to ride is exactly that for me. It’s all very well going out riding but you need something to ride on, you need something to push your limits day in, day out and that is what I try to do”.

Dan’s brother and current UCI Downhill World Champion, Gee Atherton, said: “Dan is one of the most inspiring people in mountain biking. His vision and determination to create has produced trails I could only ever have dreamt of riding and I know that if it wasn’t for him encouraging me to do new things and push my riding, I wouldn’t be where I am today”.

Dan’s Sister, 2013 UCI Downhill World Cup and World Champion, Rachel Atherton, said: “Dan is so focused on building better trails and pushing the limits its inspiring. The possibilities where he now lives in Mid Wales are endless, it’s such an opportunity for all of us to keep bettering ourselves and I can’t wait to see what he builds next.”

‘Escape. Create.’ is out on Friday.
