Enduro Gear Review 2011

FORKS

The first point of contact and one of the most important equipment decisions you will make. A UK enduro event based around a largely smooth trail centre will certainly not warrant a big hitting 160mm fork, but then will save your skin on a fifty meter rock section as the ground drops away from you. With events being so close it’s all about weighing up the options between performance on harder terrain but increased weight, or alternatively going for the skinnier fork that’s potentially faster on the smoother terrain.

Most European events will almost certainly require 160mm forks for the type of terrain the tests are done on. Two of our top choices for this year are the BOS Deville and Fox Float. The Deville is light weight with a great size chassis and incredible stability in its damping. The Fit version of the Fox 36 Float with Kashima coating is chosen due to it lightweight, simplicity and support. Alternatively for the super race version a custom 36 with RC2 cartridge, but is a bit more cash.

Fox Float RLC £869, Custom Fox 36 RC2 £1079 www.mojo.co.uk

SHOCK AND TUNE

Many riders will benefit from a pro tune on their shock to deal with the increased speeds. Mojo, TF Tuned and R53 engineering all offer this service and advice.
