For many riders the Maxxis High Roller 2 3C needs little introduction; it’s been a well-regarded choice for many years as on the works bike of Josh Bryceland and rightly so. It has almost become the universal tyre of choice, and not so long ago few brands had an answer for the High Roller such was its superb all-round dry condition ability.
Version II comes in an extensive range of options; dual, triple and 3C compounds, with a tougher EXO sidewall giving additional security and durability in rockier terrain. Tubeless ready is a given these days and the TR models have proved reliable for us on most rims.
Many brands have caught up with Maxxis and offer good alternatives but the High Roller II is still a ‘go to’ tyre for us, one of the great dry weather tyres. With an open tread pattern yet closely spaced shoulder blocks its predictability and easy profile enables smooth cornering and just enough engagement when you drop the anchor. There’s nothing quite like the security offered by a soft compound High Roller when diving into a pile of rock and root either. With a faster, harder compound on the rear, in all wheel sizes, you have a winning pair.
As an all rounder the High Roller II still very much top of the list.
