Ten enduro bikes from British brands

Banging British bikes

Enduro may have been invented in the south of France but it has been wholeheartedly adopted by us Brits. After all, it is pretty much what we were doing anyway, it now just has a name.

It’s not just the riders that are loving enduro though, our bike manufacturers are loving it too. Need proof? Here are ten enduro bikes coming from British companies ready to rip up the racetrack.

Hope HB211

Very few bikes have caused as much of a stir as the Hope HB 211 this year. It’s the first ever full bike from the Barnoldswick brand and they’ve certainly got off to a flyer. We’ve not ridden it yet (in fact, it’s not even on sale) but just look at it, you know it’s going to be fast.

Airdrop Edit

Sheffield’s good at many things and being completely free of bullshit is one of them. The Airdrop Edit proves that. This is a bike about one thing – pinning. Take it down to your local woods and let it rip. It’s not the most refined bike we’ve ever ridden but it’s one of the most fun. Spot on.

Orange Alpine Six

The Orange Alpine is one of our all-time favourites and it just got better for 2017. Small changes to the bottom bracket height and head angle make it more balanced and a better cornerer.

Yes, all the up dates are in place with the standard mountain bike spin of lower, longer, faster, lighter but of major importance here for Orange is that it’s curvier than ever – no longer looking like the entrance to a sheep pen.

Cotic Rocket

From a brand that was previously best known for its hardcore hardtails, Cotic now has an impressive range of four full suspension bikes too. If you’re a serious enduro racer then stick to the Rocket that has taken James Swinden to PMBA glory.

It uses Cotic’s Droplink system to control it’s 150mm of travel with a swaggering attitude. And who can resist those gorgeous, straight, steel tubes.

Starling MK3

Men in sheds. You cannot beat them. Starling Cycles is the brainchild of Joe McEwan in Bristol and his homemade MK3 is a crisp and clean machine. Steel is the material of choice and we reckon he’s got the blend of stiffness and flex just right.

On One Codeine

For 2017, the On One Codeine gets smaller wheels and boosted travel to bring it bang into line with modern enduro bikes.  You can pick up one of these for as little as £1,500 and be well on your way to smashing enduro stages when it arrives in the post.

Saracen Ariel

It’s only been a handful of years since Madison relaunched the Saracen brand and they’re already winning World Cups and banging out top end bikes. Initial verisons of the Ariel were a bit clunky but now they can rip it with the best enduro bikes around.

Solid, reliable and very fun bike to ride. Highly recommended.

Vitus Sommet

Offering direct sale value, Vitus’ Sommet is a fully sorted enduro bike for under £2,000. Actually, better than that, it’s under £1,800. This is nigh-on unbeatable value, not something you’d always expect from a British brand!

It’s also a pinner with sorted angles and a solid finish. Don’t miss out on this.

Nukeproof Mega

Under Sam Hill, this bike has picked up EWS wins and has never finished outside the top 10 at any race. It’s available in 29 or 27.5 versions and this year’s updates have made it more honed than ever.

Nukeproof finishing kit is also upgraded to includes their well shaped wide Carbon bars and Vector AM saddle. This bike is indeed ready to race.

Whyte G-160

Once just known for making pretty hardtails, Whyte now has a full fleet of of full sussers. The G-160 has 10mm travel extra this year and its top tube has ballooned. This makes it one of the longest enduro bikes around but we think it fits to a tee.
