Cotic releases three new full suspension bikes

Taking it to the max

Sheffield’s Cotic Bikes has described today as the biggest day in its history since it first launched the Soul hardcore hardtail over a decade ago, and it’s easy to see why.

Cotic only recently started producing full suspension bikes and had one model, the Rocket, that was updated to 650b wheels earlier this year (you may rememeber the hilarious Rocketman video). That range has now quadrupled in size as Cotic adds the Rocket Max, the Flare and the Flare Max.

Collectively the range is called Droplink, named after the linkage driven single pivot suspension design Cy Turner and his team have created. The frames are fully made from Reynolds 853 steel with the exception of the aluminium swingarm and titanium pivot fittings. A heat treated seat tube (carried over from the Soul) adds stiffness and a lack of brace on the seatstays allows for huge clearance.

Cotic claims that it gives incredible braking performance, an interactive feel and low weight. It certainly looks the part and we’ll be keen to see how it fares on the trail as soon as possible, especially seeing as all the bikes are now also available in XL sizing (except the Flare).

Cotic Flare

The Flare is a a 130mm trail bike designed to take the DNA of the Rocket and combine it with the quick handling of the Soul. Cotic is calling it a bike for “mountain biking” – a climber, a descender, a bit of an all rounder to handle whatever you can throw at it.

The details and latest trends are all covered: Taper steerer compatible head tube, 142×12 Syntace X-12 bolt thru back end for stiffness, sealed, capped and shielded pivots, ISCG05 mounts plus internal and external routing for maximum dropper seatpost compatibility.

The Flare will be available in three build options and prices start at £2,799 or you can buy the frame and shock from £1,499.

FLare Max and Rocket Max

Cotic is also offering both the Rocket and the Flare in 29/650b+ sizing and calling them Max. The bikes are capable of fitting either a 29x 2.5″ or 27.5 x 2.8″ tyre and come with new tubing, swingarms and Boost axles to give the stiffness required for bigger wheels.

Both Max versions lose 10mm of travel but the greater rollover of the bigger wheels should mean this isn’t too much of a loss.
