Are there faults? This was one of a dozen pre–production bikes and it was waiting on a rubber guide on the cable entry on the lower downtube and there was a slight rattle from the Reverb cable. This will be sorted once they begin rolling. The Mavic wheels were exemplary yet did need a quick hub tighten up after the first day.
At £3,300 it is YT’s most expensive bike ever. No carbon bike with this specification comes anywhere near in terms of price. In fact you could buy a YT enduro AND a downhill bike for the cost of even one overhyped, overpriced, underperforming piece of junk. More than this, the Capra is all about the ride quality and all round ability. I’ve never ridden a bike that is capable of so much. You want one bike? Here is your bike.
Long travel does require a certain approach to set up and does need care to get the balance right – as a bike that can potentially be raced downhill and also on all day/all week rides the cockpit and front/rear shocker needs care to make sure the body is placed in the correct position for each application. The superb geometry makes this task easier but we did notice on the flatter tracks that we needed more low speed on the rear. This not a criticism in any way, in fact it’s stimulating taking on the journey.
This bike blows all theories of long travel trail out of the water. In truth I cannot currently see any company matching this bike, not even close. YT are marching unstoppably towards downhill and enduro bike of the year… and it’s only January! In all likelihood this bike will be sold out within minutes.
