The Atom full-face helmet from One Industries takes the gong for the best value helmet out there. At just £109.99, you would be hard pushed to find a helmet that will do a better job of keeping your head safe. One Industries have also done a brilliant job of making this budget lid look the business as well. The Atom is DOT/SNELL rated for motorbike use, so is designed to take the hits at considerably higher speed than that of a normal MTB-specific lid. Weight in hand and on your head is that of a solid piece of equipment, which in itself is very confidence inspiring. Despite the low price, the weight certainly isn’t out of this world, coming in at just over 1300g. Many more expensive full face mountain bike helmets don’t come in lighter than this. As the Atom isn’t designed specifically for mountain bike use, venting hasn’t been made a priority, but if all you’re going to be using it for is uplifted downhill runs, then that really shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Despite the looks of a very short chin guard, it sits far enough away to not affect air intake. The eye port is massive and allows suitably large range of vision with or without goggles. Six sizes should cover whatever head size you might be as well.
