THE POINT 5
THE POINT 5
THE’s new Point 5 helmet could be the steal of the year. Borrowing its styling from the ever-popular ‘One’ helmet which sold for £100 more, this full face mountain bike helmet not only looks great while performing well, it’s a bargain and comes in six sizes. The ABS plastic shell rather than a composite or carbon is the key to the price drop, but even so, despite this, the weight is a very sensible 923g. The Point 5 feels light in the hand and on the head, but is reassuringly snug and confidence inspiring while riding. The massive range of sizes should mean anyone can find one to fit their head, whilst the large eye port ensures maximum visibility and eyewear compatibility no matter what, with very little peripheral intrusion. A nice addition to the foolproof D-ring retainer, is a red popper that ensures the strap is secure and out of the way once fitted. Venting is good, but not brilliant, so the Point 5 would better suit someone doing top-to-bottom runs only, but a helmet at this price was always going to have to compromise somewhere. A fully adjustable visor and removable, washable pads round off a top value helmet.
