Bell Super 2 and 2R helmet

Tough as hell, cool on the head, our top all-mountain lid for 2016

Back in 2011 Bell’s sister brand Giro stopped making the Xen helmet, a model that (along with the Flux from Fox) defined a new breed of lid that we had grown to love. No more did we have to choose between a ‘piss-pot’ skate style or a lightweight XC model for trail riding; here was a type of helmet that was fit for purpose. Increased protection for the back of the head, a fully cover shell, and an adjustable peak, all with a secure fit. All this, in a good-looking, stylish helmet.

Fast-forward five years and it is the Bell Super 2 that has impressed the most, and leads the field in trail helmets. From Enduro racing to trail centre sessions, this helmet will keep you covered and is packed with features.

“The Bell Super 2 is packed with features and has impressed us, whether racing enduros or bashing out trail centre loops”

Weighing in at 360g the Super 2 isn’t the lightest trail helmets but it has a substantial and reassuring feel. It fits deep around the lower back of the head and is retained by Bell’s adjustable TAG system. The in-molded polycarbonate shell covers the helmet completely giving plenty of protection whether on your head or in the back of the van. The vented visor has great adjustment and can be tilted up high with space for your goggles to sit below, a feature we like and missing on may lids.

Comfort is a high priority with the Super 2 as well as protection. 23 external vents are well placed, and along with four additional ‘Overbrow’ ducts, keep air moving through and out the rear of the helmet. The X-Static (anti-odour, anti-microbial) padding dries quickly too. For long testing trail rides or stage racing this really keeps you cool and comfortable, a real plus point for the Bell.

Also available is a MIPS (brain protection system) equipped version and the 2R with removable chin bar (shown in the photos) for more testing terrain or enduro racing.

So, the Super 2 is a winner in our eyes. A tough, durable, trail lid that vents well, fits superbly, and has all the right features; a benchmark helmet design.
