MRP G4 Chainguide

All is not lost....

The MRP has been a favourite chainguide with us for years now, and a regular in the Dirt 100 line up. They have been producing chain guides since the beginning and if you look back to the 90s, you can trace their evolution; the aluminium guide with an orange roller being an iconic design. How then does the new MRP G4 Chainguide compare?

MRP may well have expanded their product range (with suspension forks being their latest offering) but they have not overlooked the chain guides. We now have the latest G4 with some subtle but important improvements over the ever-popular G3. So what’s new and is this new guide from MRP still at the top of our list?

“Many chain devices promise much but sadly don’t go the distance, the MRP however has always kept us rolling, never missing a beat or letting us down”

Many chain devices promise much but many sadly don’t go the distance. When things turn bad and get out of shape, the G3 has kept us rolling, never letting us down. MRP have designed the lower guide as either a roller or a slider, the former working well in the dust and the latter when conditions yet mucky. For 2016 and the new G4, MRP has redesigned the upper retention. This co-molded ‘HD’ guide is nylon but now has a softer durometer TPU material on the interior walls and ceiling reducing noise levels from the chain; an improvement on the older model. The lower skid plate has had attention too, now being made from and improved material.

Fitting as always remains great, even on difficult frames, and this, along with the top-drawer build quality goes some way to justifying the premium price tag. Good spares back up is reassuring too.

A well-built and reliable chain device with unbeatable performance, the choice of many top riders, the MRP G4 has just moved standards forward again.
