Last, but by no means least, is this new 35mm long AM Stem. Rather than simply shortening their other stems Hope have designed this one from the ground up, and we think it’s a bit of a beauty.

One of the first things you notice about it is just how wide the bar clamp is. You might think that a stem this short is going to be stiff no matter what, but Hope certainly haven’t taken any chances here, and we like seeing such great support for a set of bars, especially considering how wide they are these days, and the number made from carbon.

The laser-etched graphics looks pretty classy, as does the overall finish for that matter. All that machining doesn’t just look pretty either, it helps to get the weight of this stem down to just 130g. Ok, maybe you’ve got to try pretty hard to make a 35mm stem heavy, but still for something so reassuringly chunky this is certainly no heavyweight.

At the rear you’ll find the opposing steerer clamp bolts which help to distribute the forces more evenly, plus from this angle you get a real idea of just how wide the front of the stem is.

35mm stems are becoming increasingly sought after, particularly by those riding bigger wheeled bikes, but the number of options out there isn’t that big, so it’s great to see Hope adding this stem to their lineup. If we were looking for a stem of this length, then right now we can’t think of anything we’d prefer.
