Sram really went to town when they designed their Guide brake; addressing all the quirks of the older Avid brakes with great success and resulting in some superbly performing stoppers. The range topping Sram Guide Ultimate are really a treat to use and show Sram’s latest know how in a superlight yet powerful brake.
“The Guide Ultimate’s calipers are all new and feature revised seals and an aluminium piston interface, improving reliability and consistency”
Starting with the lever, Sram have designed a cleanly styled low profile blade with tool free adjustment for both reach and pad contact point. The carbon lever blade has a smoother shape than the current crop of Shimano brakes and this has won fans; many finding it more comfortable and giving better feel. Being a Sram product, it is easy to combine the Guide’s lever to one of their shifters or reverb control using a ‘Matchmaker X’ mount. Tidy.
