When it comes to a shoe for flat pedal use, talk usually starts with grip. A top-of-the-list priority for sure, and there are brands that stand out where grip is concerned, but there is much more that goes into the making of a top class shoe that will go the distance. Comfort, fit, stiffness, durability and how it copes with wet weather are major considerations. It also helps if they look great too, pretty much like the Giro Jacket.
The Giro Jacket shoes tick a lot of boxes when it comes to a well made shoe that is up to the task.
“The Giro Jacket is a top quality shoe with no compromises to fit, comfort, pedal feel or grip. They won’t let you down”
First up lets talk about fit and comfort. The low-profile skate-style upper is constructed from a breathable, durable microfibre material, great for year round action. The upper is perforated on the front and side areas to aid breathability. Water stays out an all but the wettest days, but when it does get in these shoes don’t hold onto it for too long. Unlike many a shoe, moisture can get back out, allowing the upper to dry and keeping the weight down. An internal bootie keeps dirt and grip out and aids fit and foot support. EVA cushioning in the midsole, and a Poron XRD heel pad also aids comfort. This open cell material absorbs much of the impact from high speed impacts such as poor landings.
