Slow planes and heavy rains

Battling the weather and the airlines in Quebec

Words: Liam Joyce

The journey to Mont Sainte Anne was pretty hectic for a lot of teams. With baggage strikes and poor weather many of the Propain Dirt Zelvy team were delayed in their arrival with Phil and team media squid Liam Joyce arriving at 4am on the morning of practice.

Bikes were also lost by the airlines and David was forced to do training on junior rider, Henry Kerr’s bike due to the absence of his own. Despite all the obstacles that were thrown at the team, come quali day everyone was well up to pace, and David had his bike back!

Qualification was solid for everyone aside from wee George who came off track before the Stevie Smith drop and had to hike back up putting him out of the game. Phil took 14th, David 30th and Henry a comfortable 10th.

Come race day and the skies had clouded over. Rain was looming all day long. Henry came down in the dry but had a nasty crash in one of the rock gardens putting him out of contention for a top 10. David also came down in the dry and finished up in a respectable 23rd. The heavens opened come Phil’s run. He rode a wild ride with a small crash placing 67th.

On to the final round in Val Di Sole, Italy.
