Downhill

Fun in the sun

Soaking up the last rays

No sooner had qualifying finished than the heavens opened and set what we assume will be the tone for the rest of the weekend.

Dry tyres in the beating sun… there could be some puzzles to solve tomorrow

Dodging the raindrops fastest were Matt Walker, Myriam Nicole and Aaron Gwin – the latter two pick up some nice points for the overall but we can’t help but feel everything will be turned on its head if the rain persists through to tomorrow afternoon.

Gentleman in the pits, freak between the tapes

Other talking points from the day are ridiculous saves from Blenki and Danny Hart (we really hope the videos end up online soon) and a puncture for Finn Iles causing him to slip well back in the juniors.

A puncture for Finn means we have to wait for tomorrow to see his true pace

Today’s the day it all goes down in motortown:

Getting the bikes used to tomorrow's moisture
Joe Breeden's awesome season continues, leaning it over into sixth place with plenty in the tank for tomorrow.
No danger of buzzing the big wheels for Walker here
Walker is the first junior to pilot a 29er and it saw him put 10 seconds into the field yesterday
Fastest through the speed trap yesterday, Blenki is the hot topic of the pits this weekend - boy is loose!
Luca Shaw had the fastest third sector of anyone yesterday - the young American is on it
Bruni is so desperate to get back on the top step and he was on it again yesterday
Jack Moir is nicely poised in ninth on the Intense 29er. Expect big things this evening.
Not the day Brosnan will have wanted yesterady. He was a few seconds off the pace and lost valuable points to Minnaar in the overall.
Siegenthaler's best season ever continues. Another top five qualifier for her.
Only 1.5 seconds back for Tracey Hannah, the race is well and truly on for the women
Kaos Seagrave was in third, just an ant's leg away off second. There's another podium on the cards here
Walker may look dominant but Iles was right on his tail until he punctured
Big Flo Payet is back this weekend and stuck it straight into 12th
Sandwiched by the Syndicate, Danny Hart has some time to find if he wants to take the win – he’ll be praying the weather forecast is right
Brosnan spotting his line over the polished slabs
Full bore for Gwin yesterday. There's no sense in messing around when points are on the table.
Ginger ninja - Loic Bruni
"If it starts raining I get a big smile on my face" - Bren sits just outside the top 10, one to watch if the heavens open
Loris was the only Syndicate member outside the top 5. Sixth is hardly a bad day at the office though!
Pan shot for Minnaar who looks smoother than anyone... as always
Second in juniors for Sylvain Cougoureux and a great shot at a win tomorrow
Marine Cabirou couldn't match her timed training heroics and slotted fifth
We thought Tahnee would get on a roll after her Leogang win, fourth place is back on what we know she's capable of
Junior Nik Nesteroff smoking rocks
Pompon floated over the rocky road today to claim her spot at the top
Kade Edwards may be known for his style but he can fire up the afterburners too. Third place for the fresher.
