Cornwall Freeriders, Round 4 finals. Caradon Hill

Ok, so this race news is a bit old but we at Dirtmag do like supporting low key races as much as the big World Cup events. It’s all racing to us, we’re not going to have future World Champs without a good local race scene. We may even send a DirtTV crew to some random races.

Ciaran McQueen from down South sent me this write up from the recent Cornish race at Caradon.

Cornwall Freeriders, Round 4 finals. Caradon Hill- Sunday May 10th 2009

The sun blazed for the 4th round of the Cornwall Freeriders Cup , a series
of downhill races held at different locations through out Cornwall on the
first Sunday of every month.

The setting for the last Sundays race meet was directly underneath the 780′ Caradon Hill radio mast that sits right next to the small village of Minions, Cornwall’s highest village. The brand new track had been built and cut in by
two local riders Julien and Ed, and I have to say they have done a sterling
job finding a line down the steeper parts of Caradon Hill giving everything an
all natural race track needs- from flat out bits to technical rock sections, drops, gullies and natural jumps and berms. By the end of the day the whole thing
was cutting in nicely to form a fast and challenging course that is bound to become a regular hit for local riders.

Practice rounds commenced around 11am with everyone finding their speed in only a short period of time. Unfortunately many riders fell victim to some of the brutal rock sections, some scoring up to three flats in as many runs! If you are going to ride here- come prepared.

With 26 racers in the event, including club members from both Cornwall Freeriders and Woodland Riders (Gawton) the standard was very high indeed
with an overall fastest time of 1.33!

Sunburn, pinch flats and the massive push back up the hill aside the day was
a total success with both riders and spectators stoked!

Big thanks to Craig Hugo and Angela for timing and running the event.
The CFC race series will continue with its next event held on the first Sunday
of next every month at a location in Cornwall that is yet to be decided.

Please check the Cornwall Freeriders Facebook page for details- all welcome!
