Weather warnings for thunderstorms and wind have been issued in Lourdes with just half an hour to go until the Elite women’s race kicks off.
Although the junior races were run under blue skies and sunshine, a blustery wind has moved in over the past hour and the skies are starting to darken. The forecast is changing regularly but we’ve been told to expect rain, thunder and even hail before the end of the race.
Elite male riders are currently having their last hour of practice before the race and there have been complaints about the last drop into the finish. One rider (we’ll confirm who asap) has even come off and busted his ankle after a sudden gust blew him off course. Teams and exhibitors have also been asked by the UCI to strap down their tents.
Basically, it could get wild.
