Some awful news has filtered in this morning as UK downhill racer Andy Parks has passed away.

Parksy started racing World Cups in 1995 and represented Great Britain at the 1996 World Championships. He would continue racing until the year 2000 in the British Nationals. In his career he rode for MBUK Magazine, Specialized, Kona and Spooky and was known for his carefree style. He could often be seen throwing out no-foot-cans or suicides – even on race runs.
After moving on from racing, he launched a campaign to bring a BMX track to Catterick Village, where he was born and raised. The campaign was a success and the facility was opened in 2011. He then returned to racing at the Legends Race at Antur Stiniog in 2015 – his first time riding a downhill bike in 15 years.
Andy passed away on May 8 in the early afternoon at the age of 41. His death was described as sudden but not suspicious.
A fund has been started to pay for Andy’s funeral with any remaining money going to his two sons. The page reads: “A legend in the mountain bike world, a father to two lovely boys and a hugely popular guy. So genuine and caring he will be missed by so many!” If you wish you can donate here.
