Sr Suntour suspension is going to be on a major World Cup team for the first time as it has partnered with Polygon UR for 2017.
It’s easy to disparage Sr Suntour but they picked up a World Championships podium last year under Florent Payet with Marine Cabirou grabbing fourth in the women’s. There will also be no doubts about durability as they also support a number of Rampage riders including Kurt Sorge and Carson Storch.
The Rux fork has been around since 2011 and has been refined to its current form by the WERX team at Suntour. It seems that Suntour is looking to continue the development with the new team. There’s no word on what shocks the team will be running as Sr Suntour don’t really make a downhill damper, maybe that’s another thing to be developed throughout the season.
Initial feedback from Mick Hannah suggested that the fork was “surprisingly good”. Damning with faint praise maybe, but you have to respect Suntour for releasing it. They know how they are perceived by many and are looking to change it with this new move.
Hannah now says: “I’m excited to develop a new relationship with SR Suntour! So far the performance has been very impressive! It has a good balance between comfort and support and I love how tune-able it is which means we can have a great setup on any course.”
The Polygon UR team, that ran BOS last year, is also defiant in its support for the product. They said: “So this is where SR Suntour is at now and haters gonna hate but we believe that adding the suspension experience of the team and with more hard work with an awesome group of people we will hopefully have more podiums but for sure more fun.”
With both Suntour and Ohlins entering the World Cup big leagues this year it seems the stranglehold of RockShox and Fox might finally have been broken. It’s going to be an interesting year for sure.
