This shock from Öhlins is only available for one bike, the Demo 8 from Specialized, but it is well deserving of a place in this list.

ÖHLINS TTX REAR SHOCK

We thought long and hard about whether or not to include this shock in the Dirt 100 this year. Not because the performance was borderline, but because it’s only available to fit a Specialized Demo 8. The conclusion though was that it is so impressive that it had to be included, regardless of how few people can benefit from it. This is how shocks should be made, i.e. manufactured and tuned specifically for a particular frame. This means you can massively simplify the tuning on offer, and therefore remove any guesswork. If only all frame and shock manufacturers could work together like this. Obviously it takes a bit of time and money, but we think it’s definitely well spent. It looks like it will cost Demo 8 owners around £600 to buy one of these shocks, and it needs to be ridden to be believed.
