The Airbrake MX is the little brother to the Airbrake Snow, and there’s a lot of crossover in the technology used. The field of vision is great, and the lens is special, it’s pre–curved, made of injection-moulded ‘Plutonite’, which Oakley say is the most optically pure material they can find, and is much more resistant to shattering. The result is that distortion is almost undetectable. Then there’s the closure system. Instead of the traditional ‘lugs and holes’ that most lenses use, Oakley use their hinged ‘Switchlock’ system, which is so simple it’s hard to believe no–one else has thought of it before. The outer frame is quite rigid because of the lens, but there’s another rubber mini–frame in the middle which counters the rigidity with a very pliable feeling. It comes with two ‘lens protectors’ as well – a bit like tear-offs, but thicker. Ten colours and the option of tinted lenses. Premium goggles with a price to match.
