13. Onza HO Pedals
13. Onza HO Pedals
Now I just said that toe clips posed far more danger than SPD’s ever could, but these Onza HO clipless pedals are the most dangerous pedals I have ever used full stop. They came about when all people really cared about was weight, and someone at Onza realised that you could make a much lighter clipless pedal if you replaced the heavy steel spring with a lightweight piece of elastomer. Not that bloody stuff again! In order to supposedly fine tune the release strength they came with several different hardness bits of rubber, but however you ran then they were a nightmare to clip into, and if you did manage to clip in when it was cold you were unlikely to get your foot out again because the rubber turned solid. I have a particular hatred of these things because they played a large part in me being paralysed from the waist down for several hours.
