The first entry into the Worst Mountain Bike Products Ever list is, surprisingly, Shimano. It’s not often that the mighty Shimano makes a stupid decision, but we think the introduction of these ridiculous ‘Dual Control’ shifters a few years back was exactly that. Using your brake levers to shift gears?!?!? Did someone really think that was ever going to be a good idea on a mountain bike? To say we hated them is putting it mildly, and if you’re one of those weirdos out there that loves them then we think you need your head looking at! Long may these rest in the history books. Oh, and while we are on the subject of awful gear related products from Shimano, their backwards (in all senses of the word) ‘Rapid Rise’ rear mechs came ever so close to getting a place in this list.
