Mudhugger

The simplest and yet most valuable part of your kitbag

Not many of us like bolting bits of plastic to our bikes, but for much of the year here in the UK (certainly from October through to April) the trails are more often than not muddy and riddled with puddles. A front guard may mess with the looks of your bike, but it will keep your face and eyes free from crap, giving you clear vision and more focus on the track ahead. The Mudhugger is our favourite and so too World Champion Loic Bruni too.

Why has it taken so long to get a guard that is light, well made, reliable, easy to fit and doesn’t clog? Many designs will keep your face clean but usually come with a compromise, frustrating the rider and ending up in the back of the van. Let’s cut the crap in more ways than one…

Riders have been struggling with fork-mounted inner tubes or MX-style visibility mudguards to fend off mud when all it took was the simple copy of a trials guard to get moving through the muck. The Mudhugger front ‘guard opens up visibility, keeps your eyes clear, taking away the need for goggles which nearly always mist up in UK conditions. We have tried many alternatives; cheap flat-pack flexi styles, fancy carbon and many that are simply frustrating to fit. Many guards seem to clog easily and others just will not stay put and shift out of place.

“Why has it taken so long to get a guard that is light, well made, easy to fit and doesn’t clog? The Mudhugger tackles all those issues”

None however have matched the durability and simplicity of the Mudhugger. Made here in the UK from recycled plastic and weighing in from only 70g, this sturdy black guard will fit 26”, 27.5” and 29” wheel sizes with a front extender available for extra protection recommended on bigger wheels. It will take a 2.35” wide tyre without a problem. The Race version, developed with World Cup and Enduro racers in mind, has a longer front section giving better vision at higher speeds.

An essential piece of mountain bike kit for the four season rider and racer.
