Red Bull Down Metro- Budapest
The beautiful city of Budapest was the setting for Red Bull’s Down Metro event last weekend. Starting just below the surface of the Deac Ferenc metro station, the course took in a variety of obstacles including 5 escalators, 3 jumps, 2 berms and a train carriage!
Having qualified in 2nd just behind Slovak rider Pilip Polc Gee had his eye’s on the win. All was going to plan until he met brother Dan in the semi finals, the rivalry between these two is amazing and there was certainly going to be no let up from either of them. Dan got the better gate start as they hurtled down the first escalator, round the first corner and Gee had pulled closer to Dan, through the train carriage and over the double Gee started to edge into the lead, they both hit the final berm at the same time but it was Gee who took the last set of stairs the best just beating Dan by the smallest of margins.
Dan raced number 1 seed Filip Polc in the run off for third and again he missed out on the narrowest of margins, so he ended up fourth.
The final was between Gee and young gun Sam Blinkinsop, Gee’s amazing gate left Sam bemused and despite his hardest of efforts the Kiwi couldn’t pull back the gap Gee made on the first stretch of the course.
So Gee took the win adding to last years title in Mexico, he took home €3000 and a flat screen TV in prizes. Despite the 5am finish to the race the party commenced in true Red Bull style!
