Brett Rheeder is set to miss Crankworx Rotorua later this month due to a knee injury picked up last year.
The Joyride champ tore his meniscus four months ago and simply hasn’t been able to recover in time for the comp. Rheeder was on the form of his life last year and definitely would have been one of the favourites for the win. The Rotorua Slopestyle is an event that suits him well after winning it in 2015 and getting third last year.
He said on Instagram: “The last couple weeks I was able to get back on the bike and test my knee out after 4 months off from a torn meniscus. I thought that I’d be able to muscle through any pain or discomfort but after actually trying to push through it I realize that there’s no way my knee was ready. My body is telling me to hold back so that’s what I’ll do. I guess I only have one knee so I might as well treat it properly. All this being said means that I will be missing Crankworx Rotorua . Kill it boys. Make sure you send it for Kelly McGarry.”
We’re gutted we won’t be able to see another masterpiece in smoothness and style from Rheeder down under but we’re sure he’ll come back from this stronger than ever. We’re sending out healing vibes and hoping to see him back on the bike before too long.
