Athertons reveal custom World Champs bikes with a difference

An interesting twist

We’ve already started to see some custom World Championships bikes this year and the standard for personalisation has been set very high (look no further than Aaron Gwin‘s or Adam Brayton‘s) but the Athertons decided to do something totally different.

Instead of going for the usual Union Jack theme, this year Trek has supplied the Athertons with raw carbon finishes on their Session downhill bikes. The reason is simple, paint adds weight (Gwin’s design was apparently 230 grams) and the Athertons simply want their bikes to be as fast as possible.

In a post on Instagram, Gee said: “The new World Champs bike is ready and looking sharp, the guys at Trek have made us frames with just straight raw carbon to save every few grams! She looks fast!”

Rachel will be defending her rainbow stripes while Gee goes for his third World title, will this weight saving measure give them the edge they need? It has to be said that despite the lack of graphical flourishes, the bikes still look pretty bad ass. We’ll update you with more photos when we get them.
