Eric Barone (The Red Baron) smashed the mountain bike speed record on Saturday when he hit 227.720 km/h (141.498 mph) in Vars, Switzerland.
In doing so, he beat his own previous record of 223.3 Km/h (138.75 mph) set back in 2000. This means he is still the fastest man to ever ride a mountain bike.
But what about Markus Stockl? His record still stands, but in a different category. Stockl was riding a production bike on gravel, Barone‘s record allows him to use a custom bike and set the record on snow. Basically, they’re both still mad men in equal amounts.
The record took two years of preparation and you can see how unstable the bike was at that speed. Will this ever be beaten?
