If you were hoping to see the overall standings shaken up at the penultimate round of the world cup then prepare to be disappointed. The series leaders asserted their dominance as they eye up clinching the series this evening.

Gwin, Atherton, Iles, it’s becoming familiar now, but don’t write off the weekend. Mont Sainte Anne is one of those places where anything can happen. A lot of their rivals had off days and luck, just as much as skill, played a part in these qualifying results – but then champions are those that make their own.
In the men’s race the top four in the standings were the top four on track. Gwin smashed every split but his rivals know they can make up some time with perfect runs, and there are wildcards who DNF’d down the standings. Expect someone to take a long stint in the hot seat later.
Atherton pulled out her biggest margin of the series to put 12 seconds into Carpenter and she went faster through the speed trap than a lot of the men. Let’s hope Tahnee came come back from her big off yesterday to mount a challenge, nobody else looks close.
Iles fought his way to the top of the heap but was not as dominant as his fellow series leaders – although he did suffer a mid-course crash. Keep an eye on the juniors tomorrow, his win is far from secure.
