Vallnord World Cup 2016: Troy Brosnan Wins Men’s Qualifying, Gwin Wins Series… we think!

Gwin extends unbeatable lead

Troy Brosnan takes the win in qualifying at the final of the UCI Downhill World Cup 2016 in Vallnord, Andorra, as Aaron Gwin extends his lead to 200 (unbeatable) points.

We have been ‘doing the maths’ (as they say) and we believe that Aaron Gwin will go into tomorrow’s final with an unbeatable 200 point lead. With 200 points up for grabs for the win that (we think) guarantees him the overall title from Danny Hart, especially as everyone in the top 80 scores points. Thinking out loud here… hold up, there will be more than 80 riders, as you have the 80 qualified riders plus those protected riders that didn’t make the top 80 (Gee Atherton, Laurie Greenland and Greg Williamson…all Brits!). Hmmmmm. Basically if Danny wins Aaron needs one point!

Before qualifying Gwin was on 1186 points. He picked up 40 for his second place today taking him to 1226. Hart finished in 7th bagging him 18pts. Add that to his 1008 and you get 1026… making him 200 points behind! Meaning that Gwin HAS won the overall title (TBC). Obviously this all needs checking by a reliable source!

Great to see that Steve Peat has qualified for his final World Cup race (45th). Gee Atherton DNF, and it looks like Rob Warner is going to have to brush up his knowledge on Ferran Jorba Prats! Fifth place for the Spaniard.
