My Chilean contact Eduardo de Solminihac from Santiago has sent me news of the American Continental Championships on the 22nd March.
You can catch a flight to Santiago from London for about £550 here.
La Parva is only a short drive from Santiago.
Here’s what Eduardo told me:
“On the 22nd of March 2009 the Chilean Ski Resort La Parva , at the same place where Markus Stockl got the world speed record, is the UCI Down Hill American Continental Championships
La Parva has put in place a Bike Park this year with 4 downhill tracks and countless freeride spots. The track has been designed and built by the very well know mountain bike rider and track producer Ignacio Barbosa.
Ignacio sent a couple of weeks ago to our friends of montenbaik the Layout of the tracks for the Down Hill and 4x Race.
Last weekend the Chilean Federation made the first classification race on a different track but very similar terrain to prepare the riders.
The construction of the Continental track will start in the following weeks.”
Here be Santiago, Chile for the geographically challenged.
Stay tuned for the other big Chilean race, the Valpariso Urban Downhill on the 22nd Feb, we should have a report, photos and possibly video.
