A few big names rolled in at Ae Forest for the third round of the BDS, on route to the next World Cup in Fort William no doubt many riders used this race to get a feel for the Scottish dirt.
In the Junior Men Reece Wilson took the top spot ahead of Taylor Vernon and our man Jacob Dickson who improved on his fifth at the Fort William taking 3rd spot on the podium. Reece raced the Scottish Downhill here in May and came 2nd so he must have every rock and line dialled on that track. Great to see Jacob moving up the ranks too, Australian Aiden Varley took 4th and Nial Oxley landed 5th place.
The Elite Women’s field was pretty small in comparison to the Mens but there were still a few international names in the mix too. Manon Carpenter was on it and took the win by over 5 seconds from Katy Curd in 2nd place. Rachel Atherton wasn’t racing this weekend but will be coming to Fort William with all guns blazing no doubt.
In the Elite Mens things were tight, properly tight. Marc ‘Slugger’ Beaumont took the win and was on the pace all weekend. He took the win by 0.323s and the top 4 riders were separated by 0.934s with team mate Gee Atherton just shy of half a second back in 5th. Sam Hill has been over in the UK for a few weeks and is on the money in 2nd. Team mate Mike Jones might be taking tips from his Aussie mentor as he landed 3rd place. Flat out as always Josh Bryceland took 4th and will be comfortable coming into the World Cup. Gee Atherton was a little off the pace but he was still pinned and will be no doubt flat out on Aonach Mor this week.
Dirt Orange rider Harry Heath took 14th so he’s building well and hoping for a stormer in Fort William at the weekend.
