The overly distinctive yellow race shirt of the Leisure Lakes team was for so long an integral part of the UK race scene. Supporting similarly integral riders such as Dave Smith, Fionne Griffiths among many others
But in 2008 shop manager Sandy Plenty re-invented the team and brought it back to life. Throughout the season we saw the likes of Jed & Chris Whitfield, Andy Woodvine and Mark Weightman showing a strong presence at UK races.
For 2009 the team will continue to support Jed Whitfield who will race in the Expert category and will be joined by the freshly promoted Andy Woodvine, who with the teams support last year, moved up a category in his first season competing at Nationals. Also promoted was his close riding buddy Richard Challinor and as a result he will be joining the team this year along with Emma Wareham who will now be competing in the Elite Women category after a nuts 2008 where she won all her senior events!
These riders will all be at the full NPS series as well as a select few Regional and European races. The team will also be represented at the rapidly blossoming ‘Saab Salomon Avalanche Trophy’ series by another new signing, Alex Langley.
It’s cool to see a company like Leisure Lakes back on the scene and showing such commitment. And it looks like they have the support of there suppliers too with a very healthy roster of sponsors for the coming year:
Oakley, Bear Back Biking Whistler, Wenlock Water and No Limits Clothing, who all add to the brilliant support the team continues to enjoy from: Santa Cruz, FOX Racing Shox, Race Face, THE, E13, SDG, Hope, Persist Components and Royal.
