Dirt columist Seb Kemp has just beamed in some news about Gorge Road Reopening in Queenstown, New Zealand a few weeks ago.
Here’s what he says:

” Also known as the Engorgement Jam because a crew of us spent all of spring here in NZ rubbing our small spot to a HUGE ONE
…AND ITS COUNCIL APPROVED!!!! the council here in qtown is nuts!!! one minute they are push pencil percys thent he next then telling us to build a better bigger jump park. Of course it wouldn’t happen without the dedication and enthusiasm of the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club and in particular Nathan Greenwood.”

Remember a while back we posted some news about Kempy’s “League Of Gentlemen Race” (check it here)
Well the boy has been busy organising a few more under the radar races. I reckon 2009 will be the year of the Low Key Race. You and your mates and your mates mates up the woods with a stopwatch, cheap as deep fried potato rhomboids and bloody good fun.

“As well as digging till me calluses dropped off i been organising a race or two under the banner of ‘THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN’. the first one (‘DAS UBER D’) was very successful and the second race (‘7MILE GROUP ACTION’) last week went very well too so i’ve decided to make them a weekly occurance starting after new year with the ‘COLIN MCRAE MEMORIAL RALLY RACE’.

The races are all about not racing as such and more about bringing people together for a laugh. Each race is run under a very different format than typical regular dh and xc race format. each race format has been designed to maximise fun and level the playing field for all riders. even a bastard hybrid of sam hill and ricky carmicheal couldnt dominate these races.
Some of the upcoming formats (name not decided upon yet) include a ‘suit pursuit’, pump party, poker race, land speed record, chainless, rally race, meagreavalanche…

There is also a little side series which i’m gonna be running which is a little bit more competitive and far more involved for participants. I decided to make these races separate from the ‘LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN SERIES’ because I want the LOGM series to be far more fun and less competitive. Dunno what im calling this side series, maybe the HADES HAVARTI HARDCORE SERIES.

The side series consists of THE ALL MOUNTAIN TRIPLE CROWN (combined time of three dhs on three different mountains around Qtown which riders must ride up first. the total ascent is around 1100 metres.) and the SHUTTLE WHORE TRIPLE CROWN (teams of two will have to complete three shuttled dhs around qtown in quickest time. each rider must drive once and ride once on each dh).”
