This Sunday saw some of the fastest racers in the UK descend upon Chicksands Bike Park for this year’s second Sixsixone Mini Downhill race. A blend of national downhill and 4X riders turned up for the showdown, with plenty of others pitting their wits against the best. The likes of NPS 4X Champ Tom Knight, World Cup 4X rider Pat Campbell-Jenner and Steve Peat’s protégé Billy Matthews all rocked up, with DMR’s Harry Molloy tearing the track apart on his Fusion downhill rig. The racing was fast and furious, most notably among the youth category, with the top three riders ripping the track up. Pro-Am winner, Pat Campbell-Jenner rode it like a BMX track, with his fast, flowing style a feast for the eyes. The girls stepped it up this year too, with more entrants and some stylish riding from the likes of Suzanne Lacey and Kate Betts. One hundred and eighty riders rocked up on the day, and with a laid back, friendly vibe, there were plenty of smiling faces under the Spring sun.

There’ll be a full write up in dirt magazine, presenting you with the finest prose and the sweetest photos, but I’ve got to tell you in advance about a young lad called Phil. He flew past me on a quick one, I didn’t realise just how quick until I saw the timesheet while eating dinner, it made me choke on my pork. The circumstance in which he won the race make it even more impressive, but that’s all going in the mag.
