661 MINI DOWNHILL RACE – Forest of Dean
Mini downhill is the new fun exciting way to race downhill. Its aimed at new riders to the sport to give it a go and we also have the Pro am category for the more established racers.
You get day riding, a good laugh and topped off with top prizes from our sponsors.
NEW 10 & 11 Year old and want to race downhill?
The minimum age for DH in the UK is 12 years old but we are always getting asked by parents “their son is 11 year’s old and really wants to start racing.
Great news is Mini Downhill’s are the only races approved by British Cycling to have 10&11 year old kids racing downhill. we made the “Rippers” age category just for them, so tell you’re little brother to get his bike out and he can start racing.
Race Sponsor
The race is being sponsored by SixSixOne, Sunline, Maxxis Tyres, Dirt Magazine & Flyup Downhill and will be known as the “661 Mini Downhill”.
Andy Gowan said
“We’re really excited to be involved with the Mini Downhill series again – it’s a great format and is a fantastic grass roots event. I think many first timers find the traditional DH race format quite intimidating – the 661 Mini Downhill opens up DH racing to a bigger audience and at a much more accessible price, offering a course which will offer challenges for more accomplished riders but not too much to scare off the mere mortals!”
Dates: Sunday 4th December 2011
Location: Forest of Dean – Gloucestershire
Tracks
Flowy, Rooty and Rocky is the theme for this winter.
The races are run over the existing tracks in the FoD with names such has Ski run, Mr Rooty, Corkscrew & Sheep’s Skull they open all year round to ride so plenty of time to get there and practice these tracks. All the tracks are fun and flowing and a great challenge for everyone. For the guys that raced last time there have been improvements made by the Dean Trail Volunteers to improve the follow and added extra corners and berms to make flow in any weather conditions.
Background:
Chris Roberts race organiser and the brains the idea of the Mini Downhill said
” There are loads of people who ride around the area that have never raced, so we have brought a race to their local track, The course is fun and following to ride but a real challenge to ride flat out on the limit.”
The event is open to any one to try downhill, no need for a race licence, so tell your friends and get your bike ready!
Description:
Top names from UK Mountain biking are taking part in the pro am race.
The riders will be competing against the clock to get the fastest time.
