Crankbrothers Stamp Pedals

New lower priced models for this size specific flattie

The Crankbrothers Stamp is one of the few flat pedals to be available in two platform sizes. With the launch of two more affordable versions and a higher spec option we take a look at what’s on offer.

Words: Sean White Images: Steve Jones and Crankbrothers

We’ve been running the Crankbrothers Stamps over the last year alongside our favourite flat pedals from Nukeproof, Bontrager, DMR and Chromag. These are all excellent designs that not only provide great grip but have the right shape (for us) and have proven themselves in terms of durability. All these four pedals are picks in the 2017 Dirt 100.

The Stamp pedals are one of the few designs on the market to be offered in a choice of platform sizes. This is primarily aimed at giving the best surface area for your foot size. With the ‘small’ Stamp (W 100mm x L 100mm) being aimed at a foot size up to 43 and the ‘large’ option (W 111mm x L 114mm) for those above that measurement. Although for most riders a ‘standard size’ pedal such as the DMR Vault (105mm x 105mm) is spot on, it’s those with a smaller foot size that will potentially benefit from having the choice. We have found favour with the original Stamp design though, so it’s not just about the size options with this Crankbrothers pedal.

Crankbrothers have expanded the Stamp range with lower priced options and a few tweaks to the original design, with a premium super-light version for those insisting on the lowest weight components. Here is a brief run down on what is coming. UK stocks should arrive in September.

‘We analyzed outsole profiles from the top mountain bike shoe brands — we discovered two distinct surface areas to optimize the shoe/pedal interface for the entire range of shoe sizes’ – Crankbrothers

As with Crank’s clipped pedals there are now numbers designating the quality and price points of the new Stamp line-up. The original Stamp gets renamed as the 7, remains at the same price of £129.99 and is available in the black and red colours. There is a very high-end version of this called the 11 with a titanium spindle and low weight (sub 325g) for those custom builds where money is no object. This will be in a black finish with gold coloured pins.

The new range of pedals are now supplied with longer pins after feedback the from riders of the first generation of the Stamp design. 10mm pins sit on the outside of the platform with 8mm on the inner creating a concave feel.

CRANK BROTHERS STAMP 3

The Stamp 3 is one model down from the Stamp 7. Whereas the original design has a concave 11-13mm platform, the model 3 has a 16mm platform with the concave feel created by the 8mm and 10mm pins. The corners are still chamfered to give better ground clearance. With this pedal CB use a forged aluminium body and the same axle and bearings as on the latest generation of Mallet DH pedals. Weights are 399g/pr (size S) and 455g/pr (size L). The Stamp 3 has an anodized finish and will be available in black, a distinctive bright blue (see above) and a Danny MacAskill edition (see below).

PRICE: £89.99

CRANK BROTHERS STAMP 2

The 2 is the cheapest Stamp in the range and as with the Stamp 3 has a boxier 16mm deep platform. Here CB use a die-cast aluminium body to keep the cost down and spec the same axle and bearing as the Stamp 3. They are a touch heavier, weighing in at 415g/pr (size S) and 470g/pr (size L). Colour options are red, black or a cool raw silver finish. This model comes in at a fiver less than the Nukeproof Horizon Pro.

PRICE: £69.99

All the Crankbrothers Stamp pedals carry a 5 year warranty.
