It’s fair to say that no other rider has had a bigger impact on the style of DH racing than Shaun Palmer. He entered a sport full of tight fitting lycra and turned it on his head. The brash American rocked up in jeans or motocross gear and generally just ripped. The guy was just as exciting on the track as he was off it, there was never a dull moment with Palmer around. It wasn’t just the attitude and clothes that gave Palmer style though, he also had a sickening level of natural talent, whether it be on a bike, snowboard, or MX bike. He may well have had his haters, but that’s the price you pay for standing out from the crowd.
