If you ride a downhill bike then a set of DH mud tyres should definitely be in your armoury, and these are our pick of the bunch. The price might seem a bit scary, but a set of these will last you for ages, partly because you’ll be using them in soft conditions, and partly because of Continental’s unique, and very impressive Black Chilli compound that lasts for far longer than you’d expect. Aside from great grip in the mud these tyres won’t chuck you off at the first sign of some root or rock, and if you can bring yourself to do it to such a pricy tyre, these also work exceptionally well in the dry when cut down a little.
