BONTRAGER MUD XR

Looking at the Mud XR tyre from Bontrager gives little impression of just how brilliant it is, or of its impressive versatility.

Although it doesn’t absolutely excel in any one condition – for instance it can’t come close to Panaracer’s Trailraker in extreme mud – what it does do is provide excellent grip in a range of grim conditions. The low-profile (for a mud tyre) spikes lend to decent rolling even when the ground does start to dry out a little, which makes them a tyre that you really can fit and forget. A reasonably soft compound rubber handles rocks and roots well too, a quality that most mud tyres can’t boast.

All in all, simply put, this tyre is ridiculously fast and confidence inspiring in nearly all conditions.
