Nukeproof Pulse DH Pro Bike Review

There’s nothing like a group test to bring to light the strengths and weaknesses of different bikes. It also highlights how testing has a track–specific angle to it. After coming back from the rigours of San Romolo this spring (and our carbon DH grouptest that was in last issue) I’ve probably been less tolerant of sizing on a bike. It reminds me of how different (and forgiving) the terrain is over here in the UK – yet fully aware that it’s possible to be slightly undersized and get away with it on some tracks, particularly the less aggressive versions under the two minute mark…

nukeproof pulse DH PRO- the review

On the sizing issue there is little doubt that many riders around 6’ are on bikes that are too small for them. It’s hard to find any good in this, but the fact is that the list of such companies is significant. That doesn’t mean there are not some truly brilliant suspension designs and bikes out there just waiting to have the extra size added to the range. The Nukeproof Pulse DH Pro offers up some excellent rear damping.

The big question on fit becomes important after the body has become fatigued to a degree where it affects your performance and composure. We all differ in our ability to hold on, we all differ in the style we ride, yet in a perfect world a bike – any off road bike – will give you support, stunning grip, a degree of feedback (often missing on some carbon rigs) and most of all, it should fit you every bit as well as a road bike can. A large Pulse is a little small for me at 6’, and past the two–minute barrier in such places as San Romolo I began to feel it.>>
