Giro’s Switchblade was a ‘convertible’ helmet. One minute it could be an XC lid, the next it could be a full face. In principle it sounds like a great idea, and if someone could really pull it off then they might be onto a good thing, but this Switchblade definitely wasn’t done well. It could almost warrant a place in this list for just looking like a dogs dinner, but it was the amount of smashed in faces that it resulted in that truly cements its place in this list. You see it gave riders a false sense of security, and the reality was that you’d probably have been better off in a crash without the flimsy chin guard fitted. Dangerous is putting it mildly.
