For some reason Continental were in the doldrums a bit when it came to DH tyres, but these two latest offerings look set to change that. The Kaiser is a High Roller-esque tyre, while the Rain King sits somewhere between a full-on mud tyre and a 50/50 tyre. Both tyres have the softest and stickiest rubber compound we’ve ever seen, but Continental claim that their magic Black Chilli compound provides 26% lower rolling resistance, 30% higher grip and a 5% increase in lifespan compared to competitors rubber. That almost sounds too good to be true, but we’ve already had a chance to test the Rain King’s out and first impressions are very good indeed, and despite our predictions after a full day of riding the tyres had hardly worn. Couple that performance with sturdy 2.5” casings and these tyres mark a great return to form for Continental.
