Core Blimey! The hottest gear at Core Bike 2017

Get your fill from the first show of the year

We’re barley three weeks into 2017 and there’s already a wealth of new kit being released. We popped up to the lovely Whittlebury Hall hotel to cast our eye over some early-season goodies from some of the UK’s biggest distributors.

Here’s out pick of the kit on offer:

Fox

Fox Head has a new range of protection that the eagle-eyed among you may have spotted on its athletes at the final World Cup and Red Bull Rampage last year.

The pad has a D30 insert but the knee cap is covered by a removable scratch plate. So what’s the idea here? Well Fox reckons that half the issue with fabric on pads is that the friction rips them up and causes them to slip down. The plastic cap on these should slide over the ground easily and you can simply replace it (for 11 quid) when it gets scratched up.

There will be elbow and knee pads of this design with more exciting colours to follow.

Onza

Aaron Gwin‘s signature Aquila tyre is due to be released in the next few months. It will originally only be available in 27.5×2.4 but there’s talk of a 29er version in the near future.

After a year of development from Gwin, Onza will be hoping it takes him to more World Cup wins next year. The tread of the tyre has eagle footprints as part of the tread just to add that extra American flavour.

Magura

This was the first chance we’d had to look at the Danny MacAskill signature brake from Magura. Although the calliper is nothing more than a coloured MT7, the one-finger lever is totally unique with two way adjustability to get the perfect position.

Also on display was Danny’s signature Lizard Skins grip (that unfortunately can’t be bought) and the display case his brake arrives in.

Corratec

How’s this for a novel idea? Corratec have created the Inside Link. It combines an elastometer that deals with small bumps at frequencies and leaves the shock to deal with the big hits – a bit like how car tyres and shocks work together.

It’s displayed here on an ebike but it’s also fitted to their non-motorised bikes too.

Yeti

Silverfish brought along a piece of kit that’s even older than us here at Dirt. This is Myles Rockwell’s 1993 A.R.C from the Reebok Eliminator on Mammoth Mountain. Rockwell took the win over McRoy by just three tenths of a second, that 64 tooth chainring probably helped a lot!
