SRAM TYPE 2 REAR MECHS

Not wishing to lose out to Shimano on the best thing to happen to rear mechs in ages, SRAM will now be offering ‘Type 2’ X0 and X9 rear mechs which feature a chain stabilisation system to both reduce noise and chain drop. There are two main differences compared to Shimano’s Shadow+ system, with the first being that SRAM have chosen to use a roller bearing clutch with self lubricating needle bearings, rather than a simple friction band clamp. SRAM are claiming this system to be more reliable, but it’s factory set and so not adjustable like the Shimano design. The second big difference is that rather than having an on/off switch to help with wheel removal the Type 2 has a ‘Cage Lock’ button which locks the cage in a forward position. This will also be of use when fitting a chain. Perhaps the best news is that these mechs won’t cost any more than the current design, and all the gubbins only add 30g of weight. The availability of three different length cages is great too. Only time will tell which proves to be the better system…

Price: X0 £179.99, X9 £74.99 Fisher Outdoor Leisure 01727 798 340
