Aaron Gwin may have cruised down in 55th place on Sunday but it was enough for him to secure the overall title on his first year at YT. Interestingly Gwin says he had originally intended to challenge for thew win but heavy rain showers before his run meant he had to play it safe.
Gwin said: “I wanted to push, trust me. I took out of the start gate like full race mode, I was like screw it, I’m going to go for it. Then when I got into the first few fast sections with all the roots it was like no way dude, you’re gonna die.”
With four World Cup overalls in the bag, Gwin will be chasing hard to claim his first ever rainbow jersey next weekend.
The Mob said: “In a dramatic day of racing in Vallnord, Andorra, that saw thunderstorms roll in and dump heavy rain on a dust laden track for just the last few men to come down the hill, Aaron Gwin had to switch from attempting to win the race, to ensuring the World Cup Title.”
