Mountain biker annoys buddhists by riding on ancient temple

Was it really worth the Instagram likes?

A mountain biker has caused offence in Thailand by riding in the grounds of the Wat Jed Yod temple in Chang Mai, Thailand… Numpty.

The rider is at the temple with a photographer and appears to be trying to get a picture of himself dropping off a ledge in front of a Buddha statue. Wat Ched Yod, built in 1455, a popular destination for Thai and foreign visitors.

The local press has condemned his actions, calling it: “offensive to all Buddhists and most Thais”. This video was filmed by a local, although apparently the authorities have not received any formal complaints.

Khao Sod reported: “Buddhist temples in Thailand, including Wat Jedyod, have stringent rules about what is allowed and disallowed, including not covering up or stepping on structures. Perceived misconduct by tourists is a routine source of indignation.”
