Chills and Skills – Team Orange Dirt at Schladming

The Dirt Orange boys decided to stop off en-route between the Fort William and Leogang World Cups to ride the infamous Schladming mountainside. ‘Media man’ Tom Caldwell takes up the story:

“After the Fort William World Cup, the team trucked on down to the mountains of Austria (non-stop may I add) in search of some less groomed, raw tracks! Schladming was on everybody’s mind, so we headed for that steep and infamous hill.

Waking up underneath the lift station, Derek the mechanic sorted the bikes out for the boys in what was the ghetto-ist pits and (gypsy) camp I’ve laid my eyes on. But it was home whilst the boys shredded and we got the bangers in, and boy, she was grand.

In between heavy showers and intense heat (that created dust in minutes), Isak eyed up quads and Phil proceeded to inside every corner whilst Jacob held her fast and controlled.

The whole team, as well as myself, wanted to stay for many, many more days. But Leogang and the World Cup came calling and we hit the road. What I mean by road is awfully steep mountain pass. Apply a 7 ton fully loaded truck to those type of gradients and you’ve got a 1st gear crawling at 7mph job on your hands. And once you’re at the top, the peril certainly isn’t over, oh no. The brakes then proceeded to boil on the way down, steaming and sizzling. Thankfully however the Vampire Deluxe made it to Leogang is back to full health. Peace out!”
